Definition of a crossbite is an "abnormal relations one or more teeth of one arch to the opposing tooth or teeth of the other arch, this can be caused by deviation or tooth position or abnormal jaw position" - this is an imbalance of the teeth, tongue, oral and facial muscles.
Cause can be inherited, lower jaw doesn't match the size of the upper jaw this causes imbalance of the musculature. Large adenoids and tonsils can spur the development of a crossbite.
Imbalance causes tension of musculature which can cause
headaches from malocclusion along with difficult chewing and swallowing, which in turn upsets digestion.
Malocclusion can lead to tooth loss. Harmonized oral balance is needed.
